An autonomous submarine named Redwing has embarked on a historic mission to become the first robot to circumnavigate the planet without a human crew on board. The underwater glider, the result of a collaboration between Teledyne Marine and Rutgers University, was launched on October 11 from Massachusetts for a five-year voyage.
