Colombia seizes Anglo-French oil firm's office over paramilitary funding claims
Colombia's prosecutor's office seizes Anglo-French oil company Perenco's office in Bogota, accused of financing a paramilitary group in northeastern Colombia between 1997 and 2005. The company, which hasn't responded to the seizure, began operations in Colombia in 1993. Since 2010, former paramilitary members cooperating with the justice system have accused it of funding the now-disbanded United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), a violent group responsible for many crimes during the worst years of the armed conflict.
