Next Sunday, Crown Prince Frederik will become the new King of Denmark - exactly 52 years to the day after his mother, Queen Margrethe II, ascended the throne. The 83-year-old announced the move in her New Year's address at a time when the crown prince and queen were making headlines due to rumors of a marital crisis.
