This year's Nobel Prize in Economics honors the former head of the U.S. central bank Fed, Ben Bernanke, and the U.S. economists Douglas Diamond and Philip Dybvig. The trio have improved "our understanding of the role of banks," the Royal Academy of Sciences in Stockholm said.
